litter in Chelsea, Manhattan
"I Love New York...The City That Never Sweeps"
(contribution and commentary by Litter Bugged)

Dear Filthy Mess,

I discovered your site about a month or so ago. I thought it an excellent vehicle to vent on my discontent with New York City's sanitation.

Here is my first submission for the Street filth gallery. It is entitled. "I Love New York...The City That Never Sweeps."

These are pictures of streets in the Chelsea district of Manhattan.

Thanks,
Litter Bugged

Thank you for your contribution.

overflowing trash can on 42nd Street and 5th Avenue
42nd Street & 5th Avenue - A Cornucopia of Trash Mar. 6, 2000

Welcome to the Crossroads of the World. This overflowing trash can was sitting in the gutter at 42nd Street and 5th Avenue.

A funny thing happened as I was preparing to photograph this mess. A bike messenger rolled up to the trash can and grabbed a discarded bottle of spring water. He chugged down the half-full bottle of water, tossed the empty bottle back on to the pile, and then rode off. Some people have a lot of guts.

Here is another angle on the trash container. The photo includes an on-looker wondering why I am photographing garbage.
