The MTA has Now Added Dining Coaches
(contribution and commentary by Litter Bugged)
Mar. 6, 2000

Dear Filthy Mess,

This is my second submission for the Public Transport gallery. The MTA has now added dining coaches.

A suggestion.  If you haven't already done so you might think of adding some links to city agencies, so that FM visitors might be able to take some real action.

I'll be back, Litter Bugged

Thanks for the suggestion Bugged, I will work on a links page.

vomit on New York City subway stairwell
Vomit in a Subway Stairwell Mar. 6, 2000

Normally vomit, in and of itself, does not warrant immortalization on FilthyMess. However, this vomit puddle was left to congeal on a subway stairwell for a few hours.

Anonymous vomit is a biohazard, and there are special clean-up kits to deal with such bodily fluids. I wonder if MTA employees ignored the obvious biohazard, or if they did not have the tools to deal with the mess.

Enjoy.

crab shells on NY subway car
Who Eats Crabs on the Subway in January? Mar. 6, 2000

Who sits on a subway car with crab claws in January (not crab season) and picks and sucks crab meat out of the shell?

Did the slob have a nutcracker and one of those little lobster forks, or did he just crack the claws with his teeth?

Do you think other people were sitting around the guy while he slurped crab flesh from the shells?

If you're going to take the trouble of bringing crab claws down into the subway, would it really have been so hard to dispose of the shells properly?

These are just some of the questions that this scene evokes. Here is a rat's eye view of the crab shells.
